Protect and Perform
As part of the partnerships, networks, and connections module we worked with ENT surgeon Rod Mountain to look at how textiles can be both decorative and serve as a form of protection for the body. The aspect of protection I explored was that from snow and ice. More specifically creating visibility within a snowy environment.
Through research I gathered key elements of creating a visible textile: colours that contrast to the environment; optical illusion or 3D; highlighting limbs; and unnaturally straight lines.
My visual inspiration was taken from the RRS Discovery and animals that survive in the aforementioned conditions e.g. penguins.
